Sixth Grade Expectations

Classroom Rules
Be Respectful of:
·         Yourself
·         Classmates, Teachers and Staff
·         Your Environment
Behavior Expectations
All 6th graders are expected to be respectful and cooperative learners.  Students need to be attentive during class and will participate appropriately in classroom discussion and activities.
Behavior Consequences
6th graders who fail to meet the behavior expectations will be assigned 30 minutes of detention after school from 2:50-3:20 or before school from 7:40-8:10.  Your child will contact you if they receive detention to let you know that they will be staying after school that day or coming in early the next morning.  To make sure that all students fully understand the expectations, we will work together the first week of school and detention warnings will be given.  Actual detention time will start the second week of school.
Academic Expectations
·         All assignments are expected to be completed on time.  If an assignment is late, it may be turned in by the following Monday for half credit.  After that, the score will become a zero.
·         On most full weeks throughout the school year, students will be bringing home a progress report Friday afternoon with current grades as well as any missing assignments.  The sheet needs to be signed by an adult and returned to school the following Monday morning.
·         Homework will be assignments that students are not able to finish during class time.
·         A Reading Record will come home every week.  On the form, students need to record a total of 100 minutes read outside of school.  An adult signature is required for each entry in order for the student to receive credit for the Reading Record.

Ticket Reward System
Students will have the opportunity to earn tickets for a variety of reasons throughout the school year.  I watch for exceptional academic work and respectful behavior.  Tickets are often given for being well organized and prepared.  Students will be able to use the tickets for entry into ticket parties where we celebrate with snacks and fun activities.
Lockers/Desks
To help prepare the students for next year, they will keep all of their books and supplies in their lockers and collect needed materials twice a day-once before school and once after lunch.  Students will not be allowed to go to their lockers at any other time to get forgotten snack, assignments or other supplies.
Bathroom/Drink Breaks
Students will use their daily planners to sign out to use the bathroom and get drinks.  They have 2 passes available per day.  Bathroom and drink breaks need to be taken during work time and NOT during instructional time.
Snack
According to our district wellness policy students are expected to bring only healthy snacks.  If a student brings pop, candy, cookies, chips, gum or any other snack with lots of sugar they will be asked to put it back in their locker.  A snack cart will be available to students who choose to purchase a snack in the cafeteria.  This option is available per trimester.
Appropriate Dress
Students will be expected to follow the district dress code.  Inappropriate language or labels, low riding pants, short skirts/shorts, spaghetti straps, revealed midriffs, and low cut tops are not accepted.  If a staff member feels that a student’s dress is inappropriate, the students will need to change clothes.
Planners
Students will fill out their planners before leaving school.  They need to be read, discussed and signed by an adult daily.
